From engineers to cabinetmakers, each member of our team takes pride in the fine craftsmanship that has built our reputation. Their combined knowledge, experience and professionalism enable us to meet any challenge with success. Meet a few of the individual talents on our team.

Graham Houghten, II, Owner/President

Graham came to Specialty Woodworks, Inc. in 1998 with more than 20 years experience in business development and management. During this time Specialty Woodworks has grown from six employees in a 3000 square foot shop producing $500K in annual revenue to its current size: 25 employees in a 13,000 square foot facility producing $3.5 million in annual revenue.

Bill Barton, Vice President of Sales and Marketing

Bill has more than 29 years in the architectural woodwork and casework business. A forestry graduate of West Virginia University specializing in wood technology, Bill’s well-rounded experience includes estimating, project management, and sales and marketing for two prominent manufacturers in the Carolinas, and a national casework line. His multi-faceted exposure to the industry has enabled us to expand our services and offer new product lines.

Charles “Kip” Porter, Operations Manager

Kip joined the Specialty Woodworks, Inc. team in 2008 with more than 35 years experience in the woodworking industry, including owning his own successful company, Southern Architectural Woodwork, for 17 years. Kip’s career includes restoration of 20 homes listed on the National Landmark Registry and work with general contractors on corporate projects that include Goodrich Corporate Headquarters, Blue Cross Blue Shield Headquarters, Transamerica East Coast, Wachovia Headquarters, the NRA and NAR in Washington, DC and many more. Extremely knowledgeable in the areas of tooling, moulding, veneer, lean manufacturing and project management, Kip is a great asset to our company.

Steve Tapping, Project Manager/Engineer

Steve joined the Specialty Woodworks team in 2004, bringing with him the unique perspective of his varied work experience. Steve began his career as an apprentice in a custom furniture shop in North London more than 35 years ago. Since then, he has specialized in antique vehicle restoration, boat and aircraft woodwork, custom staircases, molding operations, as well as high-end architectural woodwork. His hands-on woodworking experience has added considerable depth to his engineering capabilities. Each step in his career expanded his knowledge base and skills of the woodworking industry, providing a great asset to our company.

Eddie Carter, Shop Foreman

Eddie is an AWI Certified Woodworker with close to four decades of experience. First joining our team as a high-end craftsman, he is now the first shift shop foreman, overseeing quality production in the shop while continuing to produce high quality wood products for our clients.

George McCombs, Project Manager

George began his career with Specialty Woodworks in 2000, when he was hired as a fabricator for both millwork and casework. He quickly advanced to a management position, assisting in the day-to-day operations of the shop as well as product installation. Today, as our Installation Manager, George coordinates and oversees the installation of every project.

Phillip Jones, Engineering Director

A third generation woodworker, Phillip has been a member of our team since 2005. He is trained in all aspects of fabrication and engineering using Microvellum and Alphacam. In his role as Engineering Director, Phillip applies his passion for woodworking with his expertise in technology to oversee product development and product library modification.

Christian Crosby, Engineer

Christian joined Specialty Woodworks in March 2010 after graduating from the University of South Carolina, Moore School of Business, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management with a minor in Studio Art. Christian trained in our woodworking shop for six months before moving into the engineering department. He now combines his fabrication skills with his artistic talents to use Microvellum and other software packages in preparing jobs for manufacturing.

Eleanor Stump, Purchasing and Office Manager

With Specialty Woodworks since 2001, Eleanor wears many important hats on our team. As office manager, accounting manager, purchasing manager and OSHA certified safety coordinator, her organizational skills and attention to detail are essential to our success. Constantly enhancing our client service, Eleanor frequently attends professional development seminars to further her education in purchasing and office management.

Pastor Rick Floyd

Last but never least is an important team member who helps inspire our company’s positive, caring attitude. Pastor Rick Floyd with Corporate Chaplains of America visits with our team once a week and is available company-wide in times of need.
